disabilities and their families, through direct and indirect services.
Easterseals Celebrates Older American Month (05/13/2021)
Caregiving responsibilities can be overwhelming at times but when a caregiver has someone sharing that weight, it does not feel as heavy. Easterseals is proud to come alongside caregivers, like Erika Carlson, who supports her husband, Chuck, with dementia. Before the pandemic, Chuck, of Lewes, was attending Easterseals adult day services, which gave Erika a welcome respite during the day. However, when COVID restrictions caused the program to be temporarily suspended, Erika was charged with 24-hour caregiving of Chuck. Easterseals Celebrates Autism Acceptance Month (04/06/2021)
Avante Dennis, of Millsboro, is living the dream! He is working at a job he loves and with coworkers who value his work ethic and positivity. He was not always sure his job search would be fruitful until he found Easterseals Supported Employment program which helped his dreams become a reality. Avante, who has autism, is a Bakery Assistant at Giant and really enjoys making the customers happy – especially with chocolate chip cookies, their favorite. Participant Testifies for Joint Finance Committee (02/26/2021)
Mikayla Buterbaugh, of Newark (formerly of Middletown), recently testified at Delaware’s Joint Finance Budget Hearing sharing her experience with Easterseals and pleading with the committee to ensure fair pay for Direct Support Professionals, who support adults with disabilities like Mikayla. At the hearing, Buterbaugh shared, “I am 23 years old and have Down syndrome. I may need help doing things but I am not defined by my disability.
